Finding a Doctor
Waiting for a family doctor can take time, but there are other options for being consulted by a medical professional.
You can place your name on the waiting list by calling 1 (844) 313-2029, or online through the Québec Family Doctor Finder (QFDF).
In the Mauricie-Centre-du-Québec, you can also get consultation by calling 1 (844) 313-2029 to speak with a nurse practitioner who, depending upon assessment of your needs, can set up an appointment with a doctor for you. This number will also allow you to get access to other services for which you would otherwise need a family doctor, such as filling prescriptions.
There are a number of clinics taking patients without family doctors, you can consult the list here. There are designated times to call for an appointment within 24 hours.
The CIUSSS-MCQ advises that you try to always go to the same clinic when you are waiting on the list for a family doctor. By doing so, your medical file will remain in one place, and make it easier for a doctor to treat you.
The CIUSSS also suggests that you ask family and friends if their family doctors are taking new patients. You can also ask the doctors who treat you at the clinics if they are accepting new patients.
